The Board of Tampere University promised in its meeting in November 2019 that the Board will organise a discussion event about the rules of procedure in March connected to its meeting. Although it was not possible to arrange the event due to the current state of emergency, we want to remind that it is crucial to promote discussion on the rules of procedure already during this spring.
On Wednesday, the chief shop stewards filed a local bargaining initiative on the harmonisation of salaries and job titles. The chief shop stewards find that the harmonisation of salaries and job titles has not progressed in the way required by the general collective agreement for universities, which would ensure that the employees are equally treated in the harmonisation of job titles and salary levels.
Tampere University’s chief shop stewards recommend that university lecturers and university instructors ignore the provision in the work plan guideline that makes their jobs more teaching-focused and increases the number of hours related to teaching. The provision that would make all the university lecturer and university teacher jobs teaching-oriented – i.e. teaching making up more than half of the hours in the work plan – is controversial.
Tampere University Union of Researchers and Teachers will organize its spring assembly on Thursday, 23 April, from 5 p.m. to approximately 6.30 p.m.
The negotiations for a new collective agreement at the university sector continued on Friday 28th February. Exactly two years ago, on the coldest day of the winter, the staff at the University of Helsinki striked historically for the first time. The strike was supported by ”We are the university” demonstrations in different university cities.
There is some confusion about the fees paid for part-time teaching. Based on employees contacting JUKO’s shop stewards, it seems that the fees have been lowered.

The Autumn Assembly of the Tampere University Researchers and Teachers convened on 28 November and elected the President and the new Board for the year 2020. Postdoctoral research fellow Sanni Tiitinen has been elected as the President of Tatte ry for the coming year.
A host of staff and student associations at Tampere University have submitted an initiative to University Board to amend the university regulations.
The official Autumn Assembly of Tampere University Association of Researchers and Teachers will take place on Thursday, 28 November, at 4:30 p.m. at Brasserie Astor (Aleksis Kiven katu 26, next to the Central City Square). The session is open for all members. The meeting will decide on all statutory matters and elect a new Board for the Association for the year 2020.
